John is a Consultant, part of the Construction and Civil Engineering team and has worked with large developers, main contractors, sub-contractors, architects and interior designers.
John specialises in construction and civil engineering law including: advising and negotiating contracts, health and safety law, employment issues, drafting warranties and bonds, writing terms and conditions, advising on Party Walls Act, dispute resolution and debt recovery.
Having qualified as a Solicitor and a Quantity Surveyor (QS), John has a unique understanding of the day to day operations ‘on-site’ and is therefore able to provide advice which is mindful of the needs of the project but ultimately protects the business as a whole.
John’s unique breadth of skills and experience are widely recognised by his clients and he is often asked to join project teams in an advisory capacity.
As a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, John has experience in dispute resolution whether through litigation, arbitration, mediation or negotiation.
“In my line of work I’m often called upon to advise clients in a dispute. This is almost always a time consuming and costly exercise. More and more of my clients are seeing the benefits of getting it right up front, that is, ensuring they have the paper work such as appropriate terms and conditions and contracts in place. Whilst it might cost a little up front, it can certainly save a lot in the long run”. John Chittenden
