Leading law firm offers free 30-minute consultations in the lead up to most popular day for weddings

Research has shown that the most popular day for weddings is August 18, which this year falls on a Sunday. There are many theories as to why this is the case, including that some people consider the number ‘8’ to be lucky and that some people believe it looks like the infinity sign, which can be considered symbolic of love.

Leading law firm Humphries Kirk will continue to offer free initial 30-minute consultations for general advice on family law, in the lead up to the most popular day for weddings. The department can if necessary give detailed advice on family matters, helping to resolve any issues being faced, including offering advice on prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.

Margaret Baker, head of family law at Humphries Kirk, commented:

“We welcome you to our offices across Dorset and Somerset to answer any questions you may have relating to cohabitation, prenuptial agreements and care of children.
Contrary to popular belief, prenuptial agreements are not just for the rich and famous. They serve to protect anyone if a marriage should unfortunately breakdown. It can be a difficult topic to bring up, but we’re here to offer guidance and legal advice on the matter.”

Humphries Kirk can also offer advice on cohabitation and protecting assets through cohabitation agreements, declarations of trust and Wills. This week, the Office of National Statistics has released that the number of cohabiting couple families continues to grow faster than married couple and lone parent families, with an increase of 25.8 per cent (2008-2018).

Margaret added:

“If your relationship breaks down as a cohabitee, you have limited legal protection, even with children involved, in comparison to couples that are married or in a civil partnership. Our family department is here to advise you and your partner on your legal rights and assist you in taking the necessary precautions to protect your assets should separation occur.”
