Law firm secretary based in Crewkerne undertakes monthly fundraising challenges

| Published on July 23, 2018

Lisa McKenzie, secretary at Humphries Kirk in Crewkerne, is committed to doing one challenge a month for charity.

Raising funds primarily for Cancer Research, Mind, Parkinson’s UK and Shelter, Lisa has already cycled the Wiggle Spring Sportive, completed a Half Marathon, baked cakes for a Bakeathon and abseiled 174ft down a tower. Lisa began her challenges with a Boxing Day swim in the sea and will continue her monthly fundraising activities until December.

The Wiggle Spring Sportive saw Lisa cycling 29 miles in April around the New Forest and following this, Lisa took part in The Casterbridge Half Marathon in May, running through parts of historic Dorchester and the Dorset countryside.

Lisa is a secretary in the land law department at Humphries Kirk Crewkerne. She commented: “The Casterbridge Half Marathon is definitely my toughest challenge to date. It was very hot and hilly and something I can now tick off the bucket list!”

Returning to the kitchen in June, Lisa organised a successful two-week Bakeathon to raise further funds. The Bakeathon raised £255 for Cancer Research, Mind, Parkinson’s UK and Shelter.

On Thursday July 12, Lisa abseiled 174ft down the Jurassic Skyline Tower in Weymouth, this time to raise funds for Julia’s House, SEA LIFE Trust, Merlin’s Magic Wand Charity, SafeWise and The Fire Fighters Charity. Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service were on hand to support those abseiling.

Lisa added: “I would like to thank everyone for their support so far. It was brought home to me recently why I’m spending the year raising money for such good causes when, tragically, one of my daughter’s school friends lost her father to cancer. It’s a truly dreadful disease and this little girl’s sad loss has spurred me on to double my efforts to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research and my other nominated charities.”

Katharine Jones, senior partner at Humphries Kirk, commented: “We are so proud of Lisa and her fundraising efforts. She’s done amazingly well in her challenges so far and we wish her the very best of luck in the rest of the challenges she’ll be undertaking this year.”
