Guide to Intellectual Property

Darrell Stuart-Smith, partner at Humphries Kirk, explains Intellectual Property, and why you should protect it:

Intellectual Property, or IP, describes rights such as copyright, design rights, patents and confidential information.

IP can be the life blood of many businesses – for example, the design of the branding under which the business trades.

It can arise automatically or by registration. It’s vital for businesses to identify its IP, decide what steps should be taken to protect it and consider if it’s being used appropriately.

If it’s not managed properly, it can significantly impact upon the value of a business.

If you would like to talk to our commercial department about the IP of your business, please contact your local Humphries Kirk branch for advice.
