Crewkerne law firm secretary organises Pub Quiz and Silent Auction to raise funds for selected charities

Crewkerne law firm secretary at Humphries Kirk, organised and hosted a Pub Quiz and Silent Auction last month to raise funds for selected charities, including Cancer Research, Mind, Parkinson’s UK and Shelter.

The Pub Quiz and Silent Auction took place at a local village hall in Broadwindsor, raising a total of £560. The auction raised £390 and money taken at the bar along with the Quiz entry fee, raised a further £170.

The Quiz consisted of 10 rounds, including sport, general knowledge and ‘name that tune.’ One of the Humphries Kirk teams, consisting of Laura Staples, partner in the Crewkerne office and Chris Keenan, partner in the Dorchester office, were leading in the Quiz until the final round, which involved the teams being given 15 minutes to fill in a blank Monopoly board.

The Quiz was won by a local team from Broadwindsor, scoring 109 points out of 140. The winning team received a prize hamper, sponsored by Humphries Kirk and supplied by Cherry Picked Hampers of Milborne St. Andrew.

The Silent Auction had 18 lots in total, all donated by local businesses, including:

  • A hamper from Broadwindsor Craft Centre
  • A free mirror Wills voucher from Humphries Kirk
  • A family ticket to Forde Abbey & Gardens
  • A voucher for hair treatment and blow-dry from The Shed Hair & Beauty Boutique
  • Driftwood sculpture art from local artist Jenny Hunt
  • A voucher for the Wobbly Cottage Bakery in Broadwindsor
  • Handmade silver earrings from Wrixton-Smythe Creations
  • A tour of Wessex FM Studio for 4 people with the chance to read the weather from Wessex FM
  • A family ticket to Abbotsbury Children’s Farm

She commented: “The Pub Quiz and Silent Auction were both a huge success and I’d like to thank everyone that helped on the night and helped raise so much money.

“At the end of 2017, I committed to doing one challenge a month for the four charities. Highlights have included the Dorchester Half Marathon which I completed in 3 hours and abseiling down the Jurassic Skyline Tower in Weymouth. I wanted to make 2018 a year of personal challenges and positive achievements in a bid to overcome mental health issues and would like to thank everyone for their kind donations and support.”
