Michelle Dixon
Partner and Head of Construction Law Litigation / Construction Department
“I am proud to have come from Trainee Solicitor to Partner at the firm. I chose HK for my training contract because HK is a good-sized respectable firm that offered an array of specialisms and had offices local to where I lived.
HK furnished me with expert knowledge and experiences that gave me the skills and values I have built my entire career on so far; 15 years later I still live to tell the tale! Being a specialist construction and litigation solicitor can at times be challenging but I have been privileged to have received the firm’s support and engaged with all of its talented individuals at every stage of my career; something which I continue to pass on to those that join us. All I ask is, like me, they join with dedication, ambition and a good sense of humour!”
Lottie Anstey
Paralegal Private Client Department
“I didn’t have a traditional route into Law at all. I studied French, Politics and International Relations at University and then completed a Post Graduate Degree in Secondary School teaching. After a few years of teaching I needed a fresh start and I joined Humphries Kirk in 2020 as a Trainee Legal Secretary in the Private Client Department and within a year, qualified as a Legal Secretary. By 2022 I was working as a Paralegal and very quickly, by mid 2022 was promoted to a new area of the business working within Management of Affairs and with some exciting new ventures to undertake!
Humphries Kirk has supported my journey and career progression every step of the way. I have always been encouraged by my line managers and Head of Department when I want to take on new challenges, as well as to use my existing skills like my languages to help others in the company. There is always guidance and training, as well as many wonderful colleagues who share their own advice and career journeys in order to help you shape yours.”
Marnie Thomas
Solicitor Company Commercial Department
“I am a solicitor in the Company Commercial team, having joined Humphries Kirk as a trainee solicitor in 2020.
As part of my training contract, I undertook four separate seats, including an eight month seat in the Company Commercial department. I have always been interested in Commercial law, so the firm’s Corporate and Commercial offering was a natural fit for me. The team work on a wide range of transactions, typically for owner-managed businesses, in the £1million – £5million range. I have also worked on more high-profile transactions, including multi-million Euro contracts in respect of a £4billion transaction. I was able to add value to the firm from the outset of my training contract, and continue to be encouraged to reach my potential, giving me both job satisfaction and progression. Humphries Kirk employs the best people to deliver the services that clients need. As an equal opportunities employer, and by partnering with organisations such as the Sutton Trust’s “Pathways to Law” programme, Humphries Kirk delivers on its promise of providing client service which is always rooted in the real world. I came with high expectations, Humphries Kirk exceeded all of them.”
Charlie Bennett
Trainee Solicitor
“I decided that I wanted to become a solicitor because of the work experience I gained with Humphries Kirk from the age of 14. I studied Law at Cardiff University and went on to study the LPC at Bournemouth University whilst working as a care assistant. I joined Humphries Kirk in 2021 as a Paralegal in the Land department and started my Training Contract in the Family department in October 2022. I chose to work for Humphries Kirk because they are a friendly firm who have always been supportive of my ambitions to become a solicitor from a young age and have welcomed me back over the years to gain more experience and knowledge within the firm.”
Liam Voysey
Solicitor
“My career route into the legal sector has been quite a direct one. During my A-Levels. I was accepted onto the Pathways to Law Scheme at Southampton University, which was a two-year programme that gave me my first true insight into what the legal profession was really like.
In September 2014 I started my law degree at the University of Exeter and graduated in 2017. That summer I took part in a three-week placement at a firm in Bournemouth, working in its commercial property department.
In September of 2017 I started the one-year Legal Practice Course at Bournemouth University. During this course I applied for a training contract here at Humphries Kirk LLP. My training contract started in April 2019, and I qualified as a Solicitor into our commercial department (which was the last seat of my training contract) on 01 April 2021, where I have worked ever since.”
